چکیده

.he recent medical literature is replete with reports of the use of antilymphocytic serum (ALS) as an immunosuppressive agent in the prevention of homograft reactions.' 2 This agent has been successfully used in preventing corneal homograft and xenograft reactions with intralamellarly placed donor tissue.' The following study was instituted to test the effectiveness of ALS in preventing immune rejection of penetrating corneal transplants. This model was chosen because it parallels the usual clinical situation. Penetrating corneal transplants were performed in pairs of albino rabbits. This

Risk Factors for Failure of Keratoplasty in Keratoconus: Penetrating vs. Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty

Purpose: To determine the etiologic factors on rejection and failure rates and ocular surface changes after corneal transplantation by either DALK or PKP, in cases of keratoconus (KCN). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, considering the existing data, patients with keratoconus referring to Labbafinejad Medical Center from 2006 to 2016, who underwent corneal transplantation, were enrolled a...

Gene therapy approaches to prevent corneal graft rejection: where do we stand?

Cornea transplantation (penetrating keratoplasty) is the most frequently performed transplant procedure in humans. Despite advances in microsurgery and immunosuppressive treatment protocols, a significant number of corneal grafts still undergo immune-mediated allograft rejection. Topical treatment with corticosteroids is currently the gold standard and while this treatment is effective in many ...

Corneal Allograft Rejection: Immunopathogenesis to Therapeutics

Corneal transplantation is among the most successful solid organ transplants. However, despite low rejection rates of grafts in the 'low-risk' setting, rejection can be as high as 70% when grafted into 'high-risk' recipient beds. Under normal homeostatic conditions, the avascular cornea provides a unique environment that facilitates immune and angiogenic privilege. An imbalance in pro-inflammat...

Involvement of CD8+ RT1.B+ and CD4+ RT1.B+ cells of cervical lymph nodes in the immune response after corneal transplantation in the rat.

Graft rejection reactions have been observed with concomitant lymphocyte infiltrations after allogenic corneal transplantation, although the cornea is considered to be relatively protected from the systemic immune response. In order to characterize the lymphocytes that accumulate in cervical lymph nodes following transplantation, we used a model of orthotopic penetrating keratoplasty in inbred ...

Immunosuppression with mycophenolate mofetil after penetrating keratoplasty: our clinical experience

Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) has emerged as the most common form of solid tissue transplantation over the past 30 years1.This relative success of PKP is attributable to continued advances in surgical techniques, equipment, ocular pharmacology and immunology, corneal storage, and eye banking procedures. For uncomplicated first grafts performed in avascular «low-risk» beds with only local immun...
